The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has responded to reports that a federal lawmaker, Okey Chinda, has obtained nomination forms to contest the Rivers State governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking during a media chat on Wednesday, Wike declined to confirm or deny the reports, but stressed that the PDP would participate in the forthcoming election in Rivers State.

“I won’t go into that,” he said, when pressed on Chinda’s alleged ambition, maintaining that the party remains committed to the electoral process.

Wike also addressed reports that Dax George-Kelly had secured a governorship nomination form under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He described George-Kelly as a member of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State.

According to the minister, the coalition will take a collective position on which candidate to support when the time comes.

The comments come amid growing political manoeuvring ahead of the next governorship race in the state, with key actors yet to formally declare their intentions.
