The Justice Crack cybercrime case opened on Monday after the Federal Government arraigned social media influencer Justice Chidiebere, also known as Justice Crack, before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Chidiebere pleaded not guilty to an amended three-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime and felony before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.

During the hearing, prosecution witness Oronto Douglas told the court that investigators downloaded audio and video recordings of the defendant’s interview onto a flash drive. He also confirmed that he signed a certificate of compliance for the digital evidence.

Meanwhile, defence counsel asked the court to allow the bail conditions earlier granted to continue. The prosecution did not oppose the request, and the court approved it.

In addition, Justice Abdulmalik adjourned the Justice Crack cybercrime case until 28 September. The adjournment will allow the prosecution to seek approval from the court’s IT department for the viewing of forensic evidence during the next hearing.

The case has continued to attract attention online because of Justice Crack’s social media influence and the growing focus on cybercrime-related prosecutions in Nigeria.
