|By Adejumo Adekunle- Eid al-Kabir festival celebrations should be marked with vigilance and prayer, according to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
The monarch urged Muslims across Nigeria to remain security-conscious as they prepare for the Eid al-Kabir festival.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, the traditional ruler congratulated Muslim faithful for witnessing another celebration of the sacred festival.
However, Oba Ladoja warned that Nigerians must stay alert despite the atmosphere of joy and merriment associated with the occasion.
He explained that people should pay close attention to their surroundings at all times, especially during large gatherings and celebrations.
According to the Olubadan, the spirit of the Eid al-Kabir festival reflects the exemplary life of Prophet Ibrahim, who demonstrated total obedience and sacrifice to God.
He said, “Watching one’s back entails being security-conscious of one’s environment at all times, while celebrating the exemplary life of the holy Prophet Ibrahim, who offered his son, Ismail, as a sacrifice to God.”
The monarch also urged Nigerians to celebrate modestly and prayerfully because of the country’s current security challenges.
Although the festival is widely known for feasting and celebrations, he stressed that citizens should not ignore the growing concerns over insecurity in different parts of the country.
Furthermore, Oba Ladoja called on Muslim faithful to use the period to pray for peace, unity and stability in Nigeria.
The Eid al-Kabir festival is one of the most important celebrations in Islam and is observed by millions of Muslims worldwide.
