|By Adejumo Adekunle and Justice Ori – The University of Port Harcourt appreciates media partnership, according to the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill, who praised journalists for helping project the university’s successes to a wider audience.
Speaking on his five-year tenure as the ninth Vice Chancellor, Georgewill described the role as a privilege and a responsibility he did not take for granted. He thanked the media for its consistent support and commitment to promoting the university’s achievements.
The Vice Chancellor said the university recorded major infrastructure improvements during the period. These included the renovation of existing buildings, rehabilitation of structures and student hostels, construction of offices and faculty buildings, and the upgrading of learning facilities.
He also acknowledged the support of the Federal Government, noting that the institution benefited from President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative for tertiary institutions.
Furthermore, Georgewill expressed gratitude to several organisations and individuals for supporting the university’s development. He singled out Renaissance, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and the Rivers State Government for their contributions.
In addition, he thanked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for donating a world-class convocation arena and a Faculty of Law building to the institution.
The University of Port Harcourt appreciates media partnership and remains committed to strengthening collaborations that support education, research, and infrastructure development. Georgewill said these partnerships have played a significant role in advancing the university’s growth and reputation.
