|By Queen Banigo – The Oyo School Kidnapping has drawn strong reactions from some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, who are calling for urgent action to rescue dozens of abducted pupils, students and teachers.
Gunmen kidnapped victims from Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A Primary School in Esiele, all located in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, on May 15, 2026.
Reports indicate that 39 students and seven teachers were abducted. Authorities also confirmed that two teachers were killed during the attack, triggering widespread condemnation.
Singer Victony urged President Bola Tinubu to address the country’s security challenges and secure the release of all kidnap victims. In a post on X, he wrote: “Save our children and put an end to this mess.”
Meanwhile, Davido said he was deeply saddened by the incident and the continued suffering of the victims in captivity. Reacting on Snapchat, the singer expressed concern for the victims and their families, adding that the insecurity must not continue.
Similarly, Timaya called on the Federal Government to step up efforts to tackle rising insecurity across the country. In a statement, he appealed for greater urgency, collaboration and decisive action to confront the growing security threats affecting many communities.
The Oyo School Kidnapping has renewed concerns about the safety of schools and the protection of children in vulnerable communities. As pressure mounts, families continue to wait for the safe return of the abducted victims.
