By Eppe Franklyne| Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of defender Marcos Senesi, with the Argentina international set to join the club from 1 July after leaving Bournemouth at the end of his contract. The move marks another step in the club’s ongoing Premier League transfer activity as they push to strengthen their backline ahead of the new season.
The 29-year-old spent four seasons at Bournemouth, where he made 128 appearances across all competitions. He leaves as a free agent after opting not to extend his stay. The transfer has been described as a key defensive reinforcement for the North London club following a difficult campaign in which they narrowly avoided relegation.
Senesi Tottenham signing has already generated strong interest among supporters, as the club looks to rebuild under manager Roberto de Zerbi. The defender becomes Tottenham’s second signing under the new regime, following the arrival of Andy Robertson, as the club continues its Tottenham signing strategy to stabilise the squad.
“From the first moment, the club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building. It’s exciting and something I can’t wait to be involved in,” Senesi said in a statement.
He added, “Every time I step on the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and to take the club back to the place it belongs. I want to win things with Tottenham and will do everything I can to make that happen.”
During his time at Bournemouth, Senesi played a major role in a strong spell that included an 11 clean-sheet run and a 16-match unbeaten stretch. The club’s defensive progress boosted his reputation across the Premier League transfer market.
Senesi Tottenham signing is expected to add experience, composure and ball-playing ability to Tottenham’s defence. De Zerbi also praised the deal, saying:
“He’s comfortable playing in a possession-based team, reads the game very well and has the personality to thrive in a demanding environment.”
Tottenham finished 17th last season, just two points above the relegation zone, making this Senesi Tottenham signing a crucial step in their rebuild.
