Spanish giants Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth €55 million ($63.8 million).

In a statement released on Monday, Real Madrid announced that an agreement had been reached with Chelsea for the transfer of the 27-year-old left-back, who has signed a six-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2032.

Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 after emerging from the youth system of FC Barcelona and later establishing himself at Getafe CF.

The defender is currently representing Spain national football team at the FIFA World Cup and becomes the only Real Madrid player in coach Luis de la Fuente’s squad.

The transfer comes during a period of significant change at Real Madrid. Club president Florentino Pérez was recently re-elected and has appointed José Mourinho as head coach following two seasons without a major trophy.

Real Madrid are also reportedly pursuing further reinforcements, including Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool FC, while links remain with Bernardo Silva and Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan.

Cucurella leaves Chelsea with two years remaining on his contract. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he helped the club win the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Conference League.

Chelsea endured a difficult 2025–26 campaign, finishing 10th in the Premier League, and Cucurella was among those who publicly questioned the club’s decision to part ways with manager Enzo Maresca in January.
