The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed speculation that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), could permanently join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains one of its most valuable political figures.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said the party has no intention of losing Wike despite his role in the APC-led Federal Government. He maintained that the former Rivers State governor remains a committed member of the opposition party.

The statement followed recent comments by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who praised Wike’s leadership and performance during the commissioning of a project in Abuja.

Reacting to the remarks, the PDP described the commendation as recognition of the quality of leadership within its ranks. The party argued that Wike’s achievements as FCT Minister reflect the calibre of leaders the PDP continues to produce.

“The commendation by the APC National Chairman is yet another public acknowledgment of the quality, competence, and leadership capacity that the PDP continues to offer Nigeria,” the statement said.

The party stressed that Wike’s appointment in the APC-led administration should not be viewed as a political defection. According to the PDP, his current role does not affect his political identity, loyalty or long-standing commitment to the party.

“As Professor Yilwatda himself implied, Barrister Wike’s engagement with the APC-led administration is best described as a loan arrangement, and we wish to state unequivocally that the agreement contains no provision whatsoever for a permanent transfer deal.”

The PDP further stated that it would resist any attempt to lure Wike away permanently, describing him as one of its most important political assets. The party praised his contributions to infrastructure development and urban renewal in Abuja, saying his performance highlights the effectiveness of PDP leadership in public office.

It also argued that the widespread recognition of Wike’s work reinforces the party’s reputation for producing capable leaders. The opposition party urged Nigerians to support the PDP in the 2027 elections, insisting it has experienced individuals ready to drive national growth and development.
