Nyesom Wike defection rumours have been dismissed by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said on Wednesday that Wike remains a member of the PDP despite serving in the APC-led Federal Government.
His statement followed comments by APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, who praised Wike’s leadership qualities and said he wished the minister belonged to the ruling party.
However, Mohammed insisted that the praise from the APC does not signal a political switch. Instead, he argued that it highlights the calibre of leaders produced by the PDP.
“We have no intention of allowing Wike leave permanently, regardless of political pressure or offers from the APC. He is a valuable asset to the PDP,” he said.
The PDP faction stressed that Wike remains a card-carrying member of the opposition party. Furthermore, it rejected claims that he has concluded plans to join the APC.
The latest statement comes amid continued speculation over Wike’s political future because of his role in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Nevertheless, party loyalists maintain that the minister’s position in government has not changed his political affiliation.
