Nyesom Wike defection rumours dismissed by PDP faction as party leaders insist the FCT minister remains a loyal member.

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a leading figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on party members to brace themselves for a demanding political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the PDP’s 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Wike stressed that political power is earned through dedication, sacrifice and perseverance rather than being handed over willingly. He warned party members against expecting an easy path back to government, insisting that success would require hard work and strong commitment.

Drawing on his years of political experience, the former Rivers State governor encouraged party aspirants to remain focused despite challenges. He advised them not to be discouraged by intimidation, legal battles or arrests, noting that many political victories are achieved after overcoming significant obstacles.

Wike maintained that the PDP 2027 elections strategy remains on course despite ongoing court cases involving the party. He expressed confidence that legal disputes would not disrupt preparations for future electoral contests and urged members to stay focused on the larger goal.

The minister also criticised those who still long for the privileges that come with being in government. According to him, opposition politics demands resilience, discipline and a willingness to rebuild from the grassroots level.

Emphasising the importance of results, Wike challenged party leaders and hopeful candidates to concentrate on winning elections, expanding grassroots support and strengthening the party’s structures nationwide. He described political competition as a test of courage and endurance that requires determination under pressure.

Earlier, PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed appealed for unity and praised party officials for successfully conducting recent primaries. Meanwhile, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, urged members to put internal disagreements aside and work together. He said the party’s prospects in the PDP 2027 elections depend on unity, mobilisation and stronger grassroots engagement across the country.
