Security personnel have successfully stopped an attempted NIPSS security breach after suspected gunmen tried to enter the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Monday when officers on duty noticed unusual movements around the institute. They reacted quickly by securing the area and confronting the suspected intruders, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes before they could enter the facility. The swift response prevented any damage, and no injuries or deaths were reported. Activities at the institute also continued without interruption following the failed NIPSS security breach.

As of the time this report was filed, officials had not released formal statements on the incident. Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, and the spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycarp Oteh, were unsuccessful. The management of NIPSS also had not responded to requests for comment.

The attempted NIPSS security breach comes less than two weeks after the Federal Government ordered a comprehensive review of security arrangements at the institute and other strategic national facilities. The directive followed an earlier security incident at NIPSS that raised concerns about the protection of critical government institutions.

During a recent visit to the institute, Vice President Kashim Shettima said the security review reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to safeguarding key national assets. Planned improvements include stronger perimeter protection, upgraded surveillance systems, tighter access control, and increased deployment of security personnel. Shettima also assured Nigerians that those responsible for previous security incidents at the institute would be identified and prosecuted.
