Manchester City have confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the club’s new manager, with the Italian set to succeed Pep Guardiola at the end of the season. The Premier League champions announced the decision on Monday, revealing that Maresca has signed a three-year contract.

The 46-year-old returns to familiar surroundings after previously managing City’s youth team and serving as a member of Guardiola’s senior coaching staff during the club’s historic 2022-23 treble-winning season. The Manchester City manager said he is delighted to return and eager to begin work with the squad.

Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me.

The quality of the people who work here is what makes it so special, and I want to thank them for showing faith in my ability. I cannot wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City.

Maresca started his managerial career with Parma in 2021 before taking charge of Leicester City, where he guided the club back to the Premier League by winning the Championship title. His achievements earned him a move to Chelsea, where he secured a fourth-place league finish while winning the Conference League and the Club World Cup. However, his relationship with the club’s owners later deteriorated, leading to his departure midway through his second season.

The Manchester City manager now takes on the challenge of following Guardiola, whose decade in charge brought unprecedented success, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph. Chelsea also confirmed that both clubs reached a confidential settlement involving compensation, while a separate agreement was reached with Maresca regarding his exit.
