Sunday Dare Says Obi No Longer Threatens Tinubu

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has dismissed suggestions that Peter Obi remains a major political challenge to the President, insisting that the former Anambra State governor no longer poses a significant threat.

Speaking during the Mic On Podcast, Dare said the achievements of the Tinubu administration since the 2023 general election have changed the political landscape. According to him, the government’s policies and reforms have produced measurable results, giving the administration confidence in its record.

Dare stated that Peter Obi political relevance has declined because the government now has what he described as a solid performance record. He said, “Maybe before Peter Obi was a threat. Right now, Peter Obi is no threat because we stand on solid ground of performance.”

He went further by rejecting the suggestion that Obi remains a political nightmare for President Tinubu. Instead, Dare described the former Labour Party presidential candidate as “a n¥isance”, while criticising his public appearances and interview style.

According to him, “Peter Obi is not a nightmare. Maybe you’ll replace nightmare with a n¥isance,” adding that some of Obi’s responses during interviews are “very pedantic.” He also said, “They ask him a question and he goes in a roundabout direction that does not make sense.”

When reminded that Obi defeated Tinubu in Lagos State during the 2023 presidential election, Dare argued that the political situation has changed. He said, “That was 2023. We’re talking about 2026.” Asked whether Obi could repeat that result in a future election, he replied, “No. It won’t happen again.”

Dare maintained that the Tinubu administration remains focused on implementing the Renewed Hope agenda rather than concentrating on political opponents. He insisted that governance and policy delivery, not political rivalry, remain the government’s priority.
