Suleiman Abba joins PDP after quitting APC ahead of 2027 elections

Suleiman Abba joins PDP after resigning from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the move will allow him to continue serving his people ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Inspector-General of Police announced his defection on Saturday during a visit to elder statesman and founding PDP member, Sule Lamido, in Bamaina, Jigawa State.

Abba said he left the APC after he failed to secure the party’s senatorial ticket for Jigawa South-West despite passing its screening process. He argued that the PDP offers him a better platform to pursue his political ambition and contribute to public service.

Meanwhile, Lamido welcomed the decision and described it as a major boost for the opposition party. He said Abba’s experience and national profile would strengthen the PDP as political parties prepare for the 2027 elections.

In addition, Jigawa PDP Chairman Babandi Gumel said the party had started integrating Abba and his supporters into its structures across the state. He expressed confidence that the defection would improve the PDP’s chances, especially in Jigawa South-West.

Suleiman Abba joins PDP at a time when political realignments are gathering pace ahead of the next general elections, with both major parties expected to intensify campaigns in the coming months.
