Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has named his deputy, Murtala Garo, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election. The announcement appeared in a statement released on Monday in Kano by Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House.
Governor Yusuf made the announcement during a strategic meeting with federal political appointees of President Bola Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. He explained that the choice of Murtala Garo reflected the deputy governor’s loyalty, ability and dedication to the progress of Kano State since taking office. The governor said 2027 governorship election preparations would benefit from the strong partnership they have built over the years.
Speaking about his deputy, Governor Abba Yusuf described Murtala Garo as a trusted partner who has continued to show competence and a deep sense of responsibility. He also expressed satisfaction with their working relationship and praised the deputy governor’s role in supporting the administration’s goals.
The governor gave Murtala Garo a vote of confidence, saying his efforts have helped strengthen government programmes aimed at delivering meaningful development and improving the welfare of residents across Kano State. He urged party leaders, political appointees and supporters to stay united and remain committed as the administration builds on its achievements ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Governor Abba Yusuf, who won the 2023 election under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), is seeking re-election as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after joining the ruling party earlier this year.
