Peter Obi says Nigeria’s World Cup absence reflects leadership failure

Peter Obi future presidential bid may end after the 2027 general election, the former Anambra State governor has said. Speaking during an interview with media personality Rufai Oseni, Obi explained that Nigeria’s informal zoning arrangement makes another presidential contest after 2027 unlikely.

He said that if he fails to win in 2027, the presidency is expected to return to the North in 2031 under the zoning principle. Consequently, by the time power rotates back to the South, he would be about 78 years old.

However, Obi said he could only reconsider if the presidency remained in the South in 2031, although he described that possibility as very slim. Peter Obi future presidential bid, he added, now depends largely on events after the 2027 election.
