Marcus Rashford returns as Man Utd name star in squad for AC Milan clash

Marcus Rashford could make his first Manchester United appearance in 20 months after manager Michael Carrick included him in the squad travelling to Poland for Saturday’s pre-season friendly against AC Milan.

The forward could also come up against former United head coach Ruben Amorim, who now leads the Italian club.

Rashford’s inclusion marks a significant moment after a lengthy period away from the Manchester United first-team picture. His return will attract attention as Carrick prepares his side for the new season.

Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez have also travelled with the squad. However, Benjamin Sesko has been left out despite returning to Carrington.

Sesko is yet to feature for United during pre-season. The striker continues to build his fitness after recovering from a shin injury sustained over the summer.

United expect Sesko to regain full fitness in time for their Premier League opener against Hull.

Meanwhile, Mason Mount and Matthijs de Ligt are also back at Carrington as they continue their recovery programmes.

Mount suffered an injury only 20 minutes into United’s match against Paris Saint-Germain last weekend. As a result, he missed the subsequent pre-season fixture against Leeds.

For Marcus Rashford, Saturday’s match could provide an important opportunity to return to action and remind supporters of what he can offer.

The friendly against AC Milan will therefore carry added interest beyond normal pre-season preparations. Carrick will also use the game to assess his squad ahead of the competitive campaign.

United will hope to complete their preparations with a strong performance in Poland before turning their attention to the Premier League.
