The Portuguese manager has returned to Madrid 13 years after his first spell in charge. However, he says the atmosphere inside the squad is very different from what he expected.

Mourinho believes the players have created a positive environment. He also says their attitude has prevented him from showing his more aggressive side.

“I have found a dressing room that really wants to win. They are very open to common sense,” Mourinho said.

“I haven’t had any chance to be the aggressive leader that I can be. They have protected me from this version of mine because the behaviour has been immaculate.”

His comments come after a difficult previous campaign for Real Madrid.

The club ended last season without a major trophy. There were also reports of tension among players during training.

As a result, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa both lost their positions after struggling to manage the pressure and personalities within the squad.

Mourinho, however, insists he has inherited a different group of players.

For now, the manager appears encouraged by their discipline and desire to succeed. He will hope that unity can translate into results when competitive football begins.

Real Madrid are preparing to open their LaLiga campaign away against Espanyol on Saturday.

Mourinho now faces the challenge of turning the squad’s positive mood into trophies. His return has already attracted major attention, but success on the pitch will ultimately determine whether his second spell becomes a memorable one.
