Nigerian music executive Don Jazzy says Ayra Starr changed his life after their careers became linked through an Instagram freestyle.

The Mavin Records founder made the comment while responding to an X user who shared an old photograph of the singer and praised him for helping her career.

The user, @_Fabianszn, wrote: “Don Jazzy really saved Ayra Starr if not she for still dey teach kindergarten children.”

Don Jazzy responded by saying the singer had also made a major difference in his own life.

“I bless the day I was shown her Instagram freestyle. She has most definitely changed my own life too. And she has been nothing but a dream Starrgirl,” he wrote.

Their professional relationship began after Don Jazzy noticed Ayra Starr’s performances on Instagram. Her freestyles and song covers had attracted attention online before she joined Mavin Records.

Don Jazzy signed Ayra Starr to Mavin Records in 2020. She later released music that helped establish her as one of Nigeria’s leading young Afropop and R&B singers.

Since then, Ayra Starr has built an international audience with songs including Rush and Sability. She has also performed outside Nigeria and earned recognition on major music platforms.

For Don Jazzy, however, the relationship has been more than a record-label signing. His latest comments suggest that Ayra Starr’s rise also had a personal impact on him.

The music executive has frequently supported young Nigerian artists through Mavin Records. The label has helped develop several successful acts in Nigeria’s modern music industry.

Meanwhile, Ayra Starr continues to expand her career beyond the Nigerian music scene. Her growing global audience has strengthened her position among Africa’s prominent young music stars.
