The Ebonyi State Government has rejected what it called political theatrics, sponsored attacks and staged protests ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The government said Governor Francis Nwifuru would not allow the growing political activity to distract him from governing the state.
Ebonyi Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Chief Ikeuwa Omebeh, made the position known in a statement issued in Abakaliki on Wednesday.
He accused unnamed political interests of trying to replace facts with propaganda and divert attention from the administration’s development plans.
According to him, the governor remains focused on delivering his People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
Omebeh urged residents to ignore what he described as “orchestrated distractions”. He said the administration would continue to concentrate on policies aimed at improving the lives of people across the state.
The commissioner also defended the government’s position on peaceful protests and public criticism.
He said citizens have a constitutional right to protest peacefully and question government policies. However, he warned that such freedoms should not become tools for misleading the public or creating tension.
The Ebonyi State Government said it would continue to respect lawful criticism while protecting the peace and stability of the state.
The statement comes as political activities gradually increase ahead of the 2027 elections. Political parties and interest groups are expected to intensify their campaigns and public messaging as the election draws closer.
However, the government said its priority remains governance rather than political confrontation.
Omebeh therefore called on Ebonyians to judge the administration by its record and development efforts rather than what he described as politically motivated claims.
For now, the Ebonyi State Government says it will remain focused on its development agenda despite rising political pressure ahead of 2027.
