Atiku Abubakar and ADC have asked the Federal High Court in Abuja for permission to amend their case challenging President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The former vice-president and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are seeking to disqualify Mr Tinubu and the APC from taking part in the election.
Their case centres on an allegation involving an allegedly forged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The plaintiffs filed the case as suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1888/2026.
They brought the application before Justice Inyang Ekwo, asking the court to allow them to amend their originating summons.
They also want the court to recognise the amended court documents as properly filed.
However, the application does not itself determine whether the allegations against the president or the APC are true. The court will have to consider the arguments and evidence presented by the parties.
Atiku Abubakar and ADC are challenging Mr Tinubu’s eligibility as the country moves towards the 2027 presidential election.
The case also names INEC as the third defendant. The electoral commission is responsible for regulating federal elections and receiving nomination documents from political parties and candidates.
The request to amend the suit could allow the plaintiffs to introduce changes to their existing claims before the court considers the substantive issues.
Meanwhile, the legal battle adds another layer to preparations for the 2027 election. Political parties are already positioning themselves for what is expected to be a closely contested presidential race.
For now, the next step depends on the Federal High Court’s decision on the application.
The court’s ruling will determine whether Atiku Abubakar and ADC can proceed with the proposed amendments to their case.
