Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria after representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India.
The return was confirmed on Tuesday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications in the Office of the Vice President.
During the visit, Shettima took part in high-level summit sessions and held bilateral talks focused on Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic interests.
He met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with discussions covering crude oil trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, defence, digital technology, fintech, renewable energy and other key sectors.
Shettima also met World Trade Organisation Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, where he reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for multilateralism and a more inclusive global economic system.
At the BRICS Summit, the Vice President delivered Tinubu’s message on reforming global governance and financial institutions. He also presented Nigeria as a gateway to Africa’s growing market through the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Nigeria further used the BRICS Summit to strengthen ties with member and partner countries in agriculture, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, manufacturing, healthcare, energy and human-capital development.
