Rivers people in diaspora discussing their contribution to Rivers State development

Rivers people in diaspora could play a greater role in the development of the state if Action Democratic Party (ADP) governorship candidate Angel Lawson wins the election as governor of Rivers State.

Lawson said Rivers professionals living and working abroad had skills, experience and international networks that could support development in the state.

In a statement, he said his proposed administration would seek ways to involve members of the diaspora in governance, investment, technology, healthcare and education.

He also identified infrastructure, entrepreneurship and economic development as areas where professionals abroad could contribute. Lawson said Rivers residents should not have to abandon the experience they had gained overseas before contributing to their home state.

He proposed creating structured channels for professionals in the diaspora to share knowledge and mentor young people.

The plan, according to him, would also allow them to support investment, establish businesses and contribute to projects in local communities.

The Rivers people in diaspora include professionals and business people living in different parts of the world. Their involvement in local development can take different forms, including investment, skills transfer, mentoring and professional partnerships.
