Port Harcourt Refining Company support staff protest over the delayed implementation of a new salary structure and other unresolved welfare issues.
Members of the Support Staff Union of Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited (SUPSUPHAR) staged the protest after the management failed to implement a new salary and remuneration package.
The union said the new package was approved to take effect from 1 October 2026.
However, the workers are demanding action on the agreement and other outstanding issues affecting their welfare.
The Port Harcourt Refining Company support staff protest also includes demands for the payment of outstanding salaries and other entitlements.
The workers are also seeking approval for a one-time housing and rent relief payment of ₦1 million for eligible support staff.
According to the union, the payment would provide relief for workers who meet the agreed eligibility requirements.
In addition, SUPSUPHAR is calling for better consultation between the refinery management and recognised labour representatives.
The union wants management to involve labour representatives when making decisions that affect workers’ welfare and conditions of service.
The protest comes amid concerns over the implementation of the agreed remuneration package and other outstanding staff benefits.
The workers are asking management to address their demands and engage with their representatives.
The Port Harcourt Refining Company support staff protest centres on salary implementation, outstanding payments, housing relief and labour-management consultation.
No further details were provided on the duration of the protest or the response from Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited management.
