The RSUTH free eye screening exercise will take place on Thursday, 8 October, as the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital marks World Sight Day 2026.

The hospital’s Department of Ophthalmology will conduct the screening for members of staff at the IDU Hall within the hospital premises.

The exercise will begin at 9:00am.

RSUTH said the programme forms part of activities to mark World Sight Day, an annual event that raises awareness about eye health and vision care.

This year’s theme is “Love Your Eyes.” It encourages people to pay greater attention to their eye health and take steps to protect their sight.

The hospital said the screening will help promote awareness and encourage the early detection of eye conditions.

Early detection can allow eye conditions to receive appropriate attention before they cause serious vision problems.

The RSUTH free eye screening is being organised by the hospital’s Department of Ophthalmology.

The exercise will be hosted by the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor.

Hospital management has urged all members of staff to take part in the programme.

It said the screening provides an opportunity for staff to check their eye health and learn more about protecting their vision.

World Sight Day is observed globally to draw attention to blindness, vision impairment and access to eye care.

Meanwhile, RSUTH has continued to provide medical services to residents of Rivers State and other parts of the Niger Delta.

The hospital said staff participation remains important to the success of the World Sight Day activities.

The RSUTH free eye screening will hold from 9:00am on Thursday at the IDU Hall, RSUTH.
