A 75-YEAR-OLD MAN WAS REMANDED AFTER BEING ACCUSED OF RAPING AND IMPREGNATING A 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN ANAMBRA.

A 75-year-old man has been remanded in detention by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Awka, Anambra State, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 13-year-old girl who was placed in his care.

The defendant was taken into custody on Sunday night, December 11, the same day that the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare saved the adolescent, who had just given birth.

Awka’s Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, heard his arraignment on Wednesday.

On three charges of defilment, carnal knowledge, and emotional, verbal, and psychological abuse, he was charged.

The defendant was nonetheless denied bail by the court, and it was mandated that he remain in jail custody.
