A Federal High Court in Borno has ruled to free no fewer than 313 accused terrorists who were detained by the military, according to a statement released by the Defence Headquarters on Thursday.
Major General Buba Edward, the director of defense media operations, briefed journalists in Abuja on the military activities and stated that the court had ordered their release due to a lack of evidence that might have proven the suspects’ guilt following the investigation.
“During the week, in accordance with a Federal High Court of Maiduguri court order. 313 individuals who were being held for offenses relating to tourism were scheduled to be released to the administration of Borno State. Following the conclusion of the investigation and other related circumstances, the court ordered the release due to a lack of evidence.
The Department of Prosecution and the Federal Ministry of Justice prosecuted the cases, the defense spokesman said, adding that they would be turned over to the Borno State Government for additional action.
