A Nigerian man is apprehended by police after scamming a Cambodian woman on Facebook of $5,000.

In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, a 37-year-old Nigerian man has been detained on suspicion of scamming a woman of $5,000 using Facebook.

The culprit, known only as “Kel Chi,” was detained on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, by the Ministry of Interior’s light criminal police department and taken to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for prosecution.

Local media reports that Un Srey Net, 24, the victim, was approached in August 2022 using a Facebook account with the name Don Richard.

Don Richard posted on the victim’s Facebook page in September 2022 that he intended to bring goods and money to the victim by air from Korea.

After that, the victim received a call from a man posing as a customs official at the Phnom Penh Airport demanding $10K to pay tax on the imported goods. However, the victim’s family used a remittance service to send $5K, but after becoming suspicious, they alerted the authorities, who then arrested Mr. Chi.
