A 24-year-old University of Port Harcourt student has been detained by police in Edo for reportedly beating up his girlfriend.

On Tuesday in Benin, Mr. Muhammed Dankwara, the Edo Police Commissioner, informed reporters that the suspect’s landlord had reported the incident to the police.

He claimed that the landlord informed the police that the student had repeatedly stabbed the woman in the neck and the chest with a knife.

Police officers sprang into action right away, apprehended the perpetrator, found two knives, and hurried the woman to the hospital where she was pronounced dead and placed in a mortuary.

The suspect told newsmen that he discovered some fetish items in the deceased’s possession after she traveled from Asaba to spend time with him in Benin.

He said that this ended in an argument during which the female t@bbed him and he retaliated in kind.
