Ifeanyichukwu Festus Obi, 43, of North Texas, will serve the next 20 years in prison for being the leader of a group of crooks who are accused of using “sweetheart scums” on elderly victims around the nation and sending the proceeds to Nigeria.
Ifeanyichukwu, according to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, was one of four people detained after a 17-month investigation by a multi-agency task team.
He is said to be the leader of the Nigerian “Yahoo Boys” group, which transferred $1.32 million in stolen funds to Africa over a two-month period in 2019.
He was found guilty of participating in organized crime and stealing more than $300,000 worth of property.
The group is linked to callers in Nigeria who deceive the elderly into giving money to their internet love interest, it was discovered during court proceedings.
