Babatunji Wusu –

Abba Moro, the senator representing Benue South, has emerged as the Senate Minority Leader.

Moro, a two-term Senator on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, was nominated by the opposition party in the red Chamber and later confirmed by the red Chamber.

He succeeded Senator Simon Davou Mwadkwon of Plateau North Senatorial District, who had been dismissed by the Appeal Court.

The Senate had previously zoned the Minority Leader to North Central and Senator Mwadkwon, though the minority caucus selected a first-time senator.

The newly elected Minority Leader was a former Minister of Interior under the government of ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

He was elected to the Senate in 2019, taking the seat of David Mark, one of Nigeria’s longest-serving senators and a two-term Senate President (6th and 7th Assembly).

He presently serves as the University of Agriculture, Makurdi’s pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council.
