The Abia State House of Assembly has approved the 2024 Appropriation Bill for the State Local Councils, known as H.A.B 18. This legislation designates over fifty-six billion naira (₦56,732,136,110.00) for the operations of the 17 local government councils in the state for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024, along with other related purposes.
Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa announced the bill’s passage and indicated that it will become law on January 1, 2024, once it is signed by the executive. He thanked his colleagues for their efforts in advancing the bill.
In addition, the House passed H.A.B 19: The Abia State Tax Codification and Consolidation Amendment Number 2 Bill 2024. This bill revises the Abia State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law Number 7 of 2020 and addresses other relevant issues. According to Speaker Emeruwa, this law will come into effect on July 17, 2024, after receiving assent.
