BabThe village of Owo Ala Asa, in Abia State’s Ukwa West Local Government region, has expressed great concern about the Niger Delta Development Commission’s (NDDC) several abandoned projects in their region.
These abandoned projects include the Owo Ala water project, which was first awarded by UNPADEC and later inherited by the NDDC, as well as the Ngwaiyiekwe-Owo Ala Unuadienwe Road, Obehie-Owo Asa-Obegu Road, Umuokwor Owo Ala Road, and several electrical projects.
During a visit on Thursday, March 4, to Abia State’s representative on the Niger Delta Development Commission board, Eruba Dimgba, community people expressed their concerns.
Chief Han Okpokiri, who led the trip, emphasized that the abandoned projects have created enormous suffering for the community, especially because it is an agricultural producing area.
In light of this, they encouraged Dimgba to use his position and influence to assure the completion of these projects.
Members of the community stated: “We urge you to try to see that NDDC delivers Owo Ala community from the Infrastructural decay ravaging the area” .
Dimgba answered by reiterating that the new board is committed to carrying out the commission’s mandate by completing all outstanding projects in the state.
He highlighted the presence of abandoned NDDC road, water, school, and hospital projects throughout the area, highlighting that the management’s strategy prioritizes the completion of current projects in Abia and the broader South-East region above the initiation of new contracts.
