Abuja Protest Under Threat as Police Ask NLC to Suspend Tuesday Rally

The FCT Police Command has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), FCT Council, to suspend its planned peaceful protest slated for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, citing security intelligence that proscribed groups and other non-state actors may infiltrate and hijack the rally.

While reaffirming citizens’ right to protest, police say the risks of violence and disruption in Abuja outweigh proceeding as planned. Meanwhile, the NLC and TUC insist the rally will go on, pledging solidarity with striking FCT workers over unpaid pension and housing fund deductions.
