The 41-year-old Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic announced his retirement from soccer, making him the oldest player to score in Serie A history.

Following his team AC Milan’s 3-1 victory over Hellas Verona in the season finale on Sunday, Ibrahimovic made the news. “We must part ways with football, but not with you.

You brought me joy the first time I came, and you brought me love the second. I shall be a Milanista for the rest of my life because you embraced me with open arms and made me feel at home, Ibrahimovic told the Rossoneri supporters at the San Siro stadium.

According to the International Federation of Football History & Statistics, Ibrahimovic scored 561 goals for club and country while playing for nine teams during the course of his 24-year career.

With 62 goals in 121 international games, he retires as Sweden’s all-time leading goal scorer.
