The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila, is receiving medical treatment after he was shot by suspected gunmen in Osogbo on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred at about 9:50 p.m. near the MDS area of the state capital, sending residents into panic as gunshots rang out across the neighbourhood.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers reportedly followed a blue Toyota Corolla conveying Ajibola and other occupants before opening fire on the vehicle in what appeared to be a targeted attack. The occupants managed to escape and reportedly sought refuge at the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters before the assailants fled the area.

The Osogbo shooting left Ajibola with injuries, and he was immediately taken to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Reacting to the development, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, condemned the attack and called for a comprehensive investigation to ensure the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed on Thursday that it had launched an investigation into the incident. Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi said officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress call, evacuated the victim for urgent medical attention and deployed tactical units to track down those responsible.

According to the police, Ajibola remains in stable condition and is responding positively to treatment. Ojelabi added that investigators have recovered evidence from the scene, which is currently undergoing forensic examination.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, has directed a full-scale probe and instructed security operatives to identify, arrest and prosecute all individuals connected to the attack.
