Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti stated that his club does not require any winter additions because it is in fine form to begin the season in LaLiga, where they trail leaders Barcelona by two points.
The Italian coach believes that having fit players, such as striker Karim Benzema, will be crucial in dealing with the demanding schedule that awaits Real Madrid, who will be attempting to defend their LaLiga, Spanish Super Cup, and Champions League championships.
“We’re very happy to be back. “We’ve got Benzema back, who is very vital for us,” Ancelotti said to reporters on Thursday.
“The schedule is going to put a lot of pressure on us. There will be a lot of games till March, including the Spanish Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
“The idea is that we will do individual assessments of the athletes. We shall allocate who needs to relax and who needs to work. We don’t require any new signings. I believe we are doing better than last year.”
Ancelotti also complimented Argentina’s World Cup-winning captain Lionel Messi, but avoided calling him the greatest player ever.
“(Messi) has done quite well and is a fantastic footballer. With a World Cup, his career improves, but I won’t say he’s the best in history. I have liked and continue to admire good players such as the Ballon d’Or winner (Benzema), Di Stefano, Maradona, and Cruyff…” The 63-year-old continued.
Real Madrid meet Valladolid on Friday in an attempt to reclaim top spot in LaLiga.
