Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC chairman, has voiced concern about the startling number of young Nigerians participating in cybercrimes.

In an EFCC statement on X, Olukoyede expressed concern over the fact that seven out of ten Nigerian students are currently engaged in cybercrimes.

On December 4, 2023, he made the call while hosting a group that was paying a courtesy call at the EFCC’s corporate offices in Jabi, Abuja.

Seven out of ten students today are implicated in cybercrimes, which is concerning. These are the young people we are training to be tomorrow’s leaders. Olukoyede stated that the media shouldn’t give up on educating people about the wrongs of these illegal activities.

He bemoaned the consequences of young people engaging in internet-related crimes and characterized the behavior as a threat and social parasite.

Olukoyede demanded that young people around the nation be educated by the media on the dangers of excessive use of the internet.
