According to reports, a truck carrying petrol toppled in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing no less than five individuals.

According to information obtained by Naija News, there were a number of injured patients fighting for their lives in several hospitals throughout the state in addition to the five fatalities.

Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, a spokesman for the Kwara Fire Service, confirmed the event and stated that the fire was controlled by the Jebba Paper Mill’s fire department.

He also acknowledged that a number of victims were hurt, with some of them passing away in the hospital.

But at this time, I am unable to estimate the casualties, he added.

After the event, it was discovered that the petroleum products in the truck had spilled out, and some locals had dared to scoop the petroleum products out of gutters and other areas where they had leaked.

According to a witness who spoke to Channels TV, owners of nearby cars moved them away an hour and a half after the incident in order to prevent any injuries.

According to the source, “After the gasoline truck toppled, part of the substance found its way into the gutter and was set ablaze as it flowed alongside a fire from some neighbors cooking outside.

“Two kids were set ablaze while going to get water, killing one of them in the process. In the hospital, the second is still fighting for its life.

Unaware of the situation, a man went to urinate in a neighboring bush and was burned in the process. Three other persons who were scooping the waste as the fire returned down the gutter path were also reduced to ashes.

We discovered their burned bodies the following day. However, there have been around five fatalities and seven injuries to yet.

 

According to the source, some of the patients who were taken directly to the hospital eventually passed away, while others were sent, because to the severity of their burns, to UITH in Ilrin.
