All academic operations at the Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, which is controlled by the Edo State, have apparently been suspended permanently with immediate effect.
In a memo released and signed by its acting registrar, the university stated that the suspension of academic activity was necessary as a result of an emergency meeting of the university’s senate held in Ekpoma on September 4 to discuss the ongoing, days-long student protest.
The management reportedly stated: “Senate was left with no choice but to direct an immediate suspension of academic activities in order to prevent a complete breakdown of law & order as well as the need to guarantee the safety of lives & property in the University community & its environs.
To this end, it is mandatory for all students living in campus hostels to leave the Halls of Residence within the next 24 hours.
