Amobi Chika, 23, was detained by police detectives in the state of Ondo for allegedly transferring N5 million unlawfully from one account to another.
The culprit, who was paraded in Akure, the state capital, along with other alleged offenders, has admitted to the crime.
According to Chika, he “fraudulently transferred N5,020,000.00k from the complainants account to purchase Bitcoins (USDT).”
Vanguard learned that after receiving a petition on an internet fraud case, investigators used technology to track the culprit to Lagos, where he was arrested.
On behalf of a complainant, the petition was sent to the police by E.O Ajegbemiga & Co.
“The complainant applied for a post-doctoral fellowship sponsorship at University of Kwazulu-Nata South Africa from his institution,” police image maker Funmi Odunlami stated.
His bank account was credited with N5,904,000.00 once the requested amount was granted.
“Unfortunately, N5,020,000.00k was fraudulently moved from the complainant’s account to an unidentified account on April 2, 2023.
“On the basis of the petition, the Police made progress using technology, which resulted in the arrest of the offender Gerald Chika’m’ in Lagos State.
“The suspect admitted to the crime that he had stolen N5,020,000.00k from the complainant’s account and used it fraudulently to buy Bitcoins (USDT).
Seven were detained after robbing commuters of N16 million in cash.
In another news, eight travellers were ambushed and robbed in Ondo town of N16 million in cash and other valuables by seven alleged armed bandits.
When they were robed upon arrival at Ondo town, the passengers claimed to be traveling from Onisha, in the state of Anambra, while in route to ilesha, in the state of Osun.
A driver and eight passengers in a Previa bus with the registration number FKJ 777 YF, who were traveling with bags of stockfish, chairs, motor saw spare parts, and a sum of N16 million from Onitsha market square in Anambra State to Ilesha, Osun State, were ambushed at Ondo town along Ayeyemi area, according to police spokesperson Odunlami.
The van was stopped by a group of seven armed robbers who were brandishing guns, cutlasses, and sticks. They robbed the passengers and fled with the aforementioned stuff.
She claims, “The Police managed to apprehend the offenders at the point of sales of some of the products in Ondo town.
According to Odunlami, the individuals who were detained confessed to the crime.
After a thorough investigation, the suspects would be charged in court, she stated.
