Babatunji Wusu –
Michael Achimugu, a former media assistant to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in 2023, has been named a director at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
Before the 2023 presidential election, Achimugu called out and accused the former vice president of egregious financial irregularities and corruption.
At the time, Achimugu claimed in an interview with Television Continental (TVC) that he was driven to challenge his former employer because he wanted to inform and discourage Nigerians from supporting Atiku for president.
Achimugu further asserted that, should he win the 2023 presidential election, the former vice president of Nigeria had plans to carry out the assassination of a number of senior government officials.
But in the middle of a continuing initiative to revitalize the nation’s aviation industry, President Tinubu named Achimugu as the new NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection just a week after approving the dismissal of all agency heads in the aviation ministry.
Achimugu took up his position at the NCAA office in Abuja on Friday, according to a statement released by the organization’s spokesman, Carol Adekotujo, on Saturday.
Prior to his recent appointment, Achimugu worked for Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, a former spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, as Special Assistant on Customer Relations and Special Assistant on Media.
