The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police (CP), Aliyu Adamu Alhaji has vowed to rout out young criminal elements known in the state as Shila Boys.
Shila Boys are a deadly crop of youths who operate mostly in the day robbing Adamawa residents, especially in and around the state capital, often using Keke NAPEP and usually with aid of knives to dissuade stubborn victims.
Adamu who took over from Adeyanju Olugbenga who was promoted to the rank of AIG and moved out of the state said at his inaugural press briefing on Monday that his officers and men would be combing Shila Boys’ hideouts and ensuring that they would have no space and time to plan their robberies.
Adamu who hails from neighbouring Gombe State and was until his appointment the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Administration in the Bauchi State Command, said the escapades of the Shilla Boys are known to him and he would not give them rest to continue harassing innocent citizens.
He said the command under him had developed a two-way source of internal and external intelligence gathering that would put the command ahead of the boys and other criminal elements around the state.
The Police Commissioner said he believed very much in visibility policing as an approach to crime prevention and that he would be working very much in that light.
“Through massive deployment geared towards having increased police presence in every nook and cranny of the state,” he said, the police would succeed in preventing crime-minded people from carrying out their plans and also provide assurance to the people that they are well protected.
