A faction of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has denounced the David Mark–led political coalition as an illegal and unauthorized structure propped up by a rival leadership.
Secretary of the factional Board of Trustees, Rufus Ekenmi, delivered the rebuke on Thursday during a press conference in Abuja, alleging that the coalition members “sneaked into the party” under false pretenses and attempted to “infect the ADC with a spirit of insubordination.”
The faction directed its National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, to immediately activate a disciplinary committee to punish any party member who aligns or interacts with politicians associated with the coalition. Those listed include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, David Mark, Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, Abubakar Malami, Babachir Lawal, Emeka Ihedioha, and Liyel Imoke.
Responding to his endorsement by the faction, Bala pledged to defend the ADC constitution and run an impartial administration. He accused the coalition of violating party rules by operating from a “parallel headquarters.”
“I must state unequivocally that our party constitution unambiguously stipulates that only registered members in good standing are entitled to party privileges, including access to official premises,” Bala said.
