The African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman, Chief Ralph Nwosu, is about to replace the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu, ahead of the 2023 election.
In order to do this, the Chief Ralph Nwosu-led party is organizing an extraordinary national convention in Zaria.
Nwosu announced at the beginning of the Convention that more than 1400 party members would be running for various elective positions in the 2023 election, adding that the party currently has more than two million sympathizers nationwide.
The ADC leader expressed confidence that the party would perform admirably well in the 2023 election after recalling the personal sacrifices he made over the years to keep the party afloat.
He expressed concern over the party’s choice to give Kachikwu the presidential nomination and name Senator Patricia Akwashiki to lead the board of trustees.
He said: “Some individuals would never comprehend the difficult challenges involved in starting a political party from scratch. After elections, there is frequently a large exodus. Even if everyone else leaves, founders cannot give up on a mission fueled by a vision.
“In these years, we have seen more than 120 political parties lose their registration. Leaders’ faith is continuously tested, and in June 2020 we had to move since our rent was due. We sought out to members of the BOT and the National and State Assemblies, but nobody responded. As one of the party’s founders and National Chairman, I once more had to sell a house I had purchased in 1993 in order to save the party. All of my coworkers have given up their time, money, and good will in order to fully build the ADC vision as a steadfast institution. Glory be to God.
He continued, saying, “Two years ago, we decided to nominate a few people as BOT members in order to build the party, and we made Mrs. Patricia Akwashiki, who joined our party in 2019 after losing in the PDP primaries, as Chairman BOT in 2020.
Another lesson that will influence our history and learning curve is what she did with the BOT. One of the most important tasks was to increase the BOT membership to qualified Nigerians who could fully support the party in all its endeavors. The second task was to research each of the party’s 2023 presidential and governorship candidates.
“Today, we must deal with the results of the presidential screening; Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu and Mrs. Akwashiki conspired to hijack our party. We leave it up to their conscience and God’s wrath, along with a few of their bad company.
“As devoted party leaders and delegates, this convention offers us all a chance to preserve our party and turn it into an organization that will reshape how Nigeria and Africa develop.”
