Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has mandated that the state’s top officials refrain from traveling abroad for the remainder of the year.
The newest development was announced in a statement made accessible to journalists on Monday in Osogbo and signed by Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson.
According to the statement, the decision was made at the conclusion of the State Executive Council meeting last Thursday, and overseas travel would only be permitted in the event of a genuine emergency and with Adeleke’s permission.
The Governor also gave the directive that the state’s spending should be directed toward carrying out important initiatives in all areas.
He asked all cabinet ministers and officials of the administration to refrain from extravagant spending in order to demonstrate their willingness to make personal sacrifices in light of the state’s terrible financial situation.
“Foreign trips for top officials for the remainder of the year are hereby suspended, unless there is a direct emergency to be approved by the Governor,” the statement adds.
“The Governor ordered that senior officials’ foreign travel be immediately halted. In order to attend and participate in international business and investment events, he recommended the use of virtual meetings.
By limiting our spending on recurrent and overhead expenses, we must maintain the momentum of our service delivery.
“We have many needs, including those for an office and housing, but we have few resources. Therefore, we need to come up with a coping strategy while we wait for an improvement in our finance situation.
The Governor also instructed the Head of Service to draft a letter to improve communication between the Commissioners and Special Advisers in order to impose efficiency in the governance process.
“While memos by Special Advisers must pass through the Permanent Secretary to the Commissioners,” he continued, “the commissioners must ensure fair play and an accommodating spirit.”
