Nigerian lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has confirmed the arrest of controversial singer Speed Darlington, who recently garnered attention on social media after being reported missing. Some netizens alleged that the media personality had been unaccounted for over three days.

In response to the situation, Adeyanju stated that he is now involved in Speed Darlington’s case and is committed to doing everything possible to secure the singer’s release. In a post on his X handle, he emphasized the importance of freedom of expression and criticized the police for detaining individuals for sharing their views.

“It is ironic to condemn oppression while being an oppressor,” Adeyanju wrote. He added, “You can’t be singing against oppressors and still be an oppressor. We are now involved in the Speed Darlington matter. We will do everything to get him freed. Nobody should be arrested by the police for expressing their views or opinions. We urge the authorities to stop the clampdown on freedom of speech in Nigeria.”

Adeyanju concluded by stating that efforts are underway to locate Speed Darlington and work towards his release, underscoring the urgent need to halt attacks on freedom of expression in Nigeria.
