AFCON QUALIFIER: IN ABUJA, GUINÉE BISSAU DEFEATS NIGERIA 0-1

The Super Eagles unexpectedly lost against Guinea-Bissau, which marked their first setback of the AFCON 2023 qualification round.

Guinea-Bissau won the match in a surprise 1-0 victory at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Despite Nigeria’s best efforts to tie the score, Mama Samba Balde’s lone goal in the first half proved to be the game’s deciding factor.

In an effort to please their home crowd, the Super Eagles entered the game with the anticipated vigor and passion.

Early on, the in-form Victor Osimhen was given two chances, but he missed both of them. Right up until Guinea-Bissau took the lead against the flow of play in the 29th minute, Nigeria kept up the pressure and appeared more likely to score.

Nigeria tried their best to tie the score, but they were unsuccessful in doing so.

Before their upcoming match, the Super Eagles will need to regroup and refine their plan.

Guinea-Bissau, meantime, will be encouraged by this remarkable outcome and want to build on their success in the following competitions.
