Herbert Baitwababo, a member of the “Buyanja My Roots” WhatsApp group in Uganda, recently made headlines for suing the group’s administrators after being kicked off of the group.

The WhatsApp group was established, according to Baitwababo, to support individuals, offer condolences, and support to those in need. Each member was expected to pay Sh.30,000 as a membership fee.

According to Mr. Baitwababo’s affidavit, issues arose after he questioned the administrator about the procedure that permitted them to run the group’s activities and requested an audit report for cash raised since 2017.

In May 2023, the administrator kicked Baitwababo out of the WhatsApp group, which made him rush to court.

My prayers are for the court to grant me a permanent injunction so that I won’t be kicked out of the group once more, as well as for my reinstatement in the group, Baitwababo added.

On June 19, the court issued a decision in his favor.
