Chief Emeka Rollas, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has categorically denied reports claiming he was arrested and detained by the police in Umuahia, Abia State. The viral report suggested that Rollas’ arrest was linked to his alleged involvement in the imposition of an unelected chairman on the Abia State chapter of the Guild.
In a telephone interview, Rollas dismissed these claims as baseless and malicious. He explained that he had actually invited the police to intervene after an individual at the meeting began to verbally assault him and issue threats. Rollas had been in Umuahia due to the death of his mother-in-law and decided to attend a meeting led by the interim chairman of the Abia State chapter to encourage member participation.
According to Rollas, after the altercation, he contacted the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Zone 9, who responded promptly. The disruptive individual, along with others, was invited for questioning, and the meeting proceeded without further incident. Rollas later visited the police station to formally report the threat to his life. He clarified that at no point was he arrested or detained.
A statement from AGN’s spokesperson, Cornel Udofia, also refuted the reports, labeling them as a fabrication aimed at embarrassing Rollas and disrespecting the Nigerian Police Force. The statement further highlighted the ongoing leadership dispute in the Abia chapter of AGN, which has been under interim management due to an illegal election conducted by disgruntled members in 2024.
The AGN emphasized that the situation was resolved without any wrongdoing by Rollas, reaffirming his commitment to the Guild’s mission and leadership.
